Which law are we set free from?

If God's law is freedom, what law keeps us in bondage? Which law has the messiah set us free from? Are we already free or do we still need to attain it?

John

8: 31 - 40

31 So Yehoshua was saying to those Jews who had believed him, “If you continue in my word, then you are truly disciples of mine; 32 and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.” 33 They answered him, “We are Abraham’s descendants and have never yet been enslaved to anyone; how is it that you say, ‘you will become free’?” 34 Yehoshua answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who commits sin is the slave of sin. 35 “The slave does not remain in the house forever; the son does remain forever. 36 “So if the son makes you free, you will be free indeed. 37 “I know that you are Abraham’s descendants; yet you seek to kill me, because my word has no place in you. 38 “I speak the things which I have seen with my Father; therefore you also do the things which you heard from your father.” 39 They answered and said to him, “Abraham is our father.” Yehoshua said to them, “If you are Abraham’s children, do the deeds of Abraham. 40 “But as it is, you are seeking to kill me, a man who has told you the truth, which I heard from Elohim; this Abraham did not do. [NASB]

Galatians

5: 1 - 11

1 It was for freedom that the anointed set us free; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery. 2 Behold I, Paul, say to you that if you receive circumcision, the anointed will be of no benefit to you. 3 and I testify again to every man who receives circumcision, that he is under obligation to keep the whole law. 4 You have been severed from the anointed, you who are seeking to be justified by law; you have fallen from grace. 5 For we through the Spirit, by faith, are waiting for the hope of righteousness. 6 For in Yehoshua the anointed neither circumcision nor uncircumcision means anything, but faith working through love. 7 You were running well; who hindered you from obeying the truth? 8 This persuasion did not come from Him who calls you. 9 A little leaven leavens the whole lump of dough. 10 I have confidence in you in YHVH that you will adopt no other view; but the one who is disturbing you will bear his judgment, whoever he is. 11 But I, brethren, if I still preach circumcision, why am I still persecuted? Then the stumbling block of the cross has been abolished.[NASB]

Ephesians

2: 1 - 16

1 And you were dead in your trespasses and sins, 2 in which you formerly walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience. 3 Among them we too all formerly lived in the lusts of our flesh, indulging the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest. 4 But Elohim, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, 5 even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with the anointed, 6 and raised us up with him, and seated us with him in the heavenly places in the anointed, 7 so that in the ages to come He might show the surpassing riches of His grace in kindness toward us in the anointed. 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of Elohim; 9 not as a result of works, so that no one may boast. 10 For we are His workmanship, created in the anointed for good works, which Elohim prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them. 11 Therefore remember that formerly you, the Gentiles in the flesh, who are called “Uncircumcision” by the so-called “Circumcision,” which is performed in the flesh by human hands— 12 remember that you were at that time separate from the anointed, excluded from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope and without Elohim in the world. 13 But now in the anointed you who formerly were far off have been brought near by the blood of the anointed. 14 For he himself is our peace, who made both groups into one and broke down the barrier of the dividing wall, 15 by abolishing in His flesh the enmity, which is the law of commandments contained in ordinances, so that in himself he might make the two into one new man, thus establishing peace, 16 and might reconcile them both in one body to Elohim through the cross, by it having put to death the enmity. [NASB]

Colossians

1: 13 - 15

13 For he rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved son, 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. 15 he is the image of the invisible Elohim, the firstborn of all creation.[NASB]

Colossians

2: 8 - 23

8 See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary principles of the world, rather than according to the anointed. 9 For in him all the fullness of Deity dwells in bodily form, 10 and in him you have been made complete, and he is the head over all rule and authority; 11 and in him you were also circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, in the removal of the body of the flesh by the circumcision of the anointed; 12 having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised up with him through faith in the working of Elohim, who raised him from the dead. 13 When you were dead in your transgressions and the uncircumcision of your flesh, he made you alive together with him, having forgiven us all our transgressions, 14 having canceled out the certificate of debt consisting of decrees against us, which was hostile to us; and he has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. 15 When he had disarmed the rulers and authorities, he made a public display of them, having triumphed over them through him. 16 Therefore no one is to act as your judge in regard to food or drink or in respect to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath day 17 things which are a mere shadow of what is to come; but the substance belongs to the anointed. 18 Let no one keep defrauding you of your prize by delighting in self-abasement and the worship of the angels, taking his stand on visions he has seen, inflated without cause by his fleshly mind, 19 and not holding fast to the head, from whom the entire body, being supplied and held together by the joints and ligaments, grows with a growth which is from Elohim. 20 If you have died with the anointed to the elementary principles of the world, why, as if you were living in the world, do you submit yourself to decrees, such as, 21 “Do not handle, do not taste, do not touch!” 22 —in accordance with the commandments and teachings of men? 23 These are matters which have, to be sure, the appearance of wisdom in self-made religion and self-abasement and severe treatment of the body, but are of no value against fleshly indulgence.[NASB]

Acts

26: 15 - 18

15 "And I said, ‘Who are You, Master?’ And the Master said, ‘I am Yehoshua whom you are persecuting. 16 ‘But get up and stand on your feet; for this purpose I have appeared to you, to appoint you a minister and a witness not only to the things which you have seen, but also to the things in which I will appear to you; 17 rescuing you from the Jewish people and from the Gentiles, to whom I am sending you, 18 to open their eyes so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the dominion of Satan to Elohim, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who have been sanctified by faith in Me.’[NASB]

Romans

8: 1 - 2

1 Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in the anointed. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life in the anointed has set you free from the law of sin and of death.[NASB]
